Everything brands and creators need to know about engagement rates, influencer pricing and creator quality in India.
A good engagement rate depends heavily on the creator tier. Nano influencers (1K–10K followers) typically see 6–12% engagement, which is excellent. Micro creators (10K–100K) average 3.5–7%. Mid-tier creators (100K–500K) benchmark between 1.8–3.8%. Macro and Mega creators naturally see lower rates — 0.4–2.2% — because reach grows faster than community depth. On Instagram, anything above the tier average signals strong audience trust. On YouTube, watch-time percentage and comment velocity matter as much as raw likes. LinkedIn's B2B-focused audience typically yields lower but higher-intent engagement at 0.5–3% for most creators.
Indian influencer pricing in 2026 varies by platform, tier and niche. A common starting formula is ₹1,000 per 10,000 followers for a standard Instagram post, but Reels and YouTube videos command a 2–4x premium. Finance, SaaS, and B2B niches attract 1.5–2.5x higher rates than lifestyle categories because of audience purchase intent. Nano creators in Tier 1 cities typically charge ₹2K–₹12K per deliverable. Micro creators range ₹8K–₹60K. Mid-tier creators in competitive niches can charge ₹45K–₹2.5L. Always negotiate packages — a 3-reel deal should cost 15–25% less per unit than a single deliverable.
The clearest signal is a disconnect between follower count and genuine engagement. A creator with 200K followers but only 400 likes per post is a major red flag — that implies a 0.2% engagement rate, well below even the lowest benchmark. Other warning signs include: sudden follower spikes with no corresponding content virality, a follower-to-following ratio that looks purchased (e.g. 150K followers, 140K following), comment sections filled with generic one-word responses ("nice", "love this"), audience demographics that don't match the creator's region or language, and story views significantly lower than post impressions. Our estimator uses audience quality inputs to factor in fake follower risk and adjusts the collaboration score accordingly.
Creator engagement is the total active response a piece of content generates — likes, comments, shares, saves and direct messages — expressed as a percentage of reach or follower count. For brands, engagement matters far more than raw follower count because it signals how much an audience trusts and acts on the creator's recommendations. A creator with 30K highly engaged followers in a specific niche can consistently drive more conversions than a 500K mega-creator whose audience is passive. Saves are particularly powerful on Instagram — a save signals intent to revisit, meaning the audience found the content genuinely useful rather than just entertaining. When evaluating creators for performance campaigns, always weight saves and shares above likes.
Reach is the number of unique accounts that saw a piece of content. Impressions count every time the content was displayed, including repeat views by the same person. A Reel with 50,000 reach and 90,000 impressions means audiences watched it an average of 1.8 times each — a strong virality signal. For brand deals, reach is the metric that matters for awareness campaigns, while impressions matter more for recall and consideration phases. In India, Tier 1 city audiences tend to generate more impressions per reach because they're heavier social media users who re-watch and share content more frequently than Tier 2 or 3 audiences.
Niche dramatically affects both the quality and the commercial value of a collaboration. Finance, SaaS and B2B marketing creators command premium rates because their audiences have higher disposable income and clear purchase intent — a product placement in a finance creator's video reaches decision-makers, not just browsers. Beauty and fashion have the highest volume of brand deals and the most competitive CPM landscape, which drives rates up but can also lead to audience ad-fatigue. Tech and Gaming creators have some of the most loyal, action-oriented audiences with high willingness to try recommended products. Food and Travel creators in India are seeing a 2026 resurgence thanks to domestic travel and cloud kitchen growth. Our estimator applies niche-specific multipliers to both pricing and collaboration score.
